Power Series FAQs
  1. I installed and set up the power controller, but there is no output.
  2. Will the Power Series controller work with 50 Hz power?
  3. What types of input can I use?
  4. How do I order the current-limit option?
  5. If an unsealed nichrome-based heater has absorbed moisture, can I restart it safely?
  6. Can the Power Series controller retransmit the heater output?
  7. Can I change the phase-angle soft-start time?

Q I installed and set up the power controller, but there is no output.
A The control algorithm (firing mode) might be set to OFF. For information about setting up the control algorithm, see the "Fast Start Guide" in Chapter 5 of the user's manual.
Q Will the Power Series controller work with 50 Hz power?
A Yes. The Power Series controller is 50/60 Hz independent.
Q What types of input can I use?
A The Power Series controller accepts a 0-20 mA or 0-10 Vdc linear input command signal. It is also scalable for 4-20 mA, 5 Vdc, or other configurations. For details, see the "Input" section in Chapter 5 of the user's manual.
Q How do I order the current-limit option?
A To get current limiting, you must order the heater diagnostics option. Current limiting is available in single-phase models and three-phase, three-leg models only.
Q If an unsealed nichrome-based heater has absorbed moisture, can I restart it safely?
A If a system shuts down for long periods, the heater can absorb moisture. With many power controllers, a full "on" can blow the heater or fuses. If a Power Series controller is equipped with the heater diagnostics option, you can use the heater bake out feature to soft-start the heater and slowly drive out moisture. For details, see the "Phase Angle" section in Chapter 5 of the user's manual.
Q Can the Power Series controller retransmit the heater output?
A Yes. For example, you could retransmit output to a chart recorder to record system performance over time. You can retransmit either current or kVA. To use the retransmit feature, the Power Series controller must be equipped with the heater diagnostics option and the retransmit option.
Q Can I change the phase-angle soft-start time?
A Yes. For power-up, you can set a soft-start time between 0 and 120 seconds in 0.1 second increments. For signal changes, you can control the rate of power change. For details, see the "Phase Angle" section in Chapter 5 of the user's manual.
